Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we not only treated ourselves to afternoon tea, but we also made the long trip to Mitsuwa in Fort Lee for the best ramen around. Yes, it’s a bit of a hike, but it is absolutely worth it!
Here is what we had.
Gyoza – in this case it was hot, crispy, with a perfect balance between the thickness of the dumpling and the filling inside. It’s hard to keep these on the plate for long!
The main event – shoyu ramen with pork . . . and a beautiful side rice bowl topped with salmon and ikura – MY FAVORITE.
The ramen really is worth it. The pork just melts in your mouth, and the broth and noodles make you wish that both this bowl and your stomach are endless pits.
Ikura has always been my favorite sushi delicacy for as long as I can remember. Some people think it just tastes like the sea, but I know there is so much more to these beautiful little pearls. I could eat this for days. And I did, that summer when I was staying with my mom and sister at our cousin’s house in Tokyo. Let’s just say 8 year old me did not appreciate the concept and associated price tag of “delicacy.” Thanks to my aunt and uncle for indulging me that summer!
