IT’S DECEMBER!!! This means CHRISTMAS BLOG POSTS!!!!!
To kick off our special Christmas themed month, our first theme is Christmas Songs! In my opinion, one of the best things about the day after Thanksgiving is that the radio stations start playing Christmas music! There have been times when I’ve started listening to Christmas music as early as October . . . let’s just say I was abroad and homesick. Anyway, the point is, one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is the music – everyone knows the songs and they instantly make you smile.
I decided to make Egg Nog Panna Cotta in honor of the quirky Christmas song “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.”
Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve
You can say there’s no such thing as Santa
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe
She’d been drinkin’ too much egg nog
And we’d begged her not to go
But she’d left her medication
So she stumbled out the door into the snow . . .
This reindeer looks like he could have been the culprit. Apparently this song was born in 1979 and was originally performed by the husband-and-wife duo of Elmo and Patsy Trigg Shropshire. If you read the rest of the lyrics . . . they get very interesting. Plus, how is this such an upbeat song when the family matriarch has just kicked the bucket?
So on to the eats . . . Egg Nog Panna Cotta.
This panna cotta recipe incorporates milk as well as creamy rich egg nog. With a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon, the dessert definitely makes you want to curl up by the fire and watch the snow fall.
I topped the beautiful golden panna cotta with some bourbon whipped cream and crushed gingersnaps.
The final product was certainly delicious, however the next time I make this I think I will adjust the recipe slightly by using a tad less gelatin than called for and also by adding some bourbon or rum to the panna cotta itself.
