Welcome to Discovering Delicious! This blog was born in 2014 when my sister and I decided to create a space to collect all our favorite food experiences, both in our own kitchens and out and about. Now in 2018, we’ve changed the design of the blog, and while my sister will still contribute occasionally, you’ll probably be hearing from me more often.
I love cooking at home. I’m probably one of the few people in New York to say that, but yes I do cook at home more than I order Seamless. When I moved to New York and started my first job here, I needed cooking to decompress at the end of the day. Now, it’s that part of the day where I can unleash my creativity and feel an extra sense of accomplishment when dinner is a success. Weekends are even better because they are for breakfast (my favorite meal) and baking!
My philosophy is that food has the potential to bring real positivity to life, both physically and emotionally. I know I feel amazing when I consistently eat fresh, non-processed food, and I never feel like I have to sacrifice on flavor to do so. There are so many paleo, vegetarian, vegan, whole30 etc. meals that I absolutely love and go back to again and again.
Let me be clear though, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a fully loaded burger or fried chicken on a biscuit with gravy at my favorite brunch spot. Also, I’m a bottomless pit when it comes to sweet potato fries. I love going out to eat because it often gives me inspiration for dishes to make myself, or sometimes it simply indulgent and delicious and I want to eat it.
I also will never be able to completely eliminate sugar and flour from my diet because I have a serious sweet tooth. I eat chocolate every day. Sometimes twice a day. I believe I have the discipline to cut out sweets, but I just know it would make me sad. Food makes me happy so why deny myself?
I guess my point is, I eat what makes me happy. I eat what makes me feel good. I eat what will sustain me for the day. I eat what will fuel my workout. I eat with friends. I eat with family. I eat to try new things. I eat because sometimes it just looks so good. I eat what I love. I eat what is delicious, both on my tastebuds and for my soul.
